Update

Hi all,

It's been a while since we updated. We move into our house on Friday and all of our things get delivered on Monday. So this weekend we are shopping for a fridge, washing machine and a tv, lots of money to be spent! I'll take some pictures if the house once we have our furniture :)

Costco!

Today we went and visited Costco. We had to pay a $60 join up fee but we can already tell it'll be worth it. It's incredible, things I never thought you could buy were there. Like this 2.6kg block of chocolate, unbelievable! Most of the products were American, like american cheese (funny yellow/orange colour), peanut butter, frozen vegies, clothing, the list goes on! We didn't buy much today, I think we'll save our buying until we move in!

Hi all,

As Darcy mentioned earlier, we got our cars back (all safe with no new scratches!). Darcy got back to our hotel fine, I on the other hand, with a GPS, took two wrong turns. People here in the ACT have a thing about tailgating, apparently it's a big no no. So I, a poor little Victorian plater, encountered my first incident of being road rage victim on the way back. And what was it? Tailgaiting.

Being Valentines Day, Darcy and I went out for dinner at a lovely Italian place in Manuka we visited last time we were here and loved it. Because of the day, every table was booked for two people and had roses and candles on the tables which was a nice touch.

Today it was such a nice day, we went up to the Black Mountain Tower. Here are a few pics of the tower and the view from the viewing deck.

Sushi Cake anyone?

Hi all,

So far we have noticed a few things that are different up here than in Victoria. Here's a few:

Magpies look different here
Self serve coffee beans that you grind in store

Bike tracks like these are everywhere

Nothing much else is happening, the weather is perfect, so i've been mainly working on my tan. It's a hard life right now.

They have funny looking bus stops

Firstly

Firstly, an apology to our friends and family that attended our going away party, unfortunately, playing the song 'leaving on a jet plane' has lost its relevance as we flew to Canberra on a small little twin-prop plane from a wet, gloomy and quite frankly miserable Melbourne morning.
This was after a frantic Thursday planning our uplift date. However, the Friday of the uplift was a slow, uneventful day. Our movers packed everything we owned so we were left sitting and supervising the pack, which was quite boring! By the end of the day our cars were on a (very long) truck, and everything we own in a shipping crate on the back of another truck.

Tomorrow (Monday) our belongings will arrive and will be put into storage until we find a place (more on that later). Our cars however wont arrive until the following Monday, leaving us without a car for a week, which is okay, because today we used the Canberra bus system for the first time and it worked great, hopefully the experience was typical of what we can expect from the ACT public transport system!

Our hotel is great, our room overlooks a pool and we are so centrally located in the civic side on Canberra that everything is quite literally a stonesthrow away.

Our first weekend in Canberra has coincided with the multi-cultural festival so we have immersed ourselves in the multiple cultures on display (mostly via food!) down in the heart of Civic. We shared chips on a stick and Alice tried some curry which apparently included the entired animal... bones and all. Culture! It's fair to say the chips on a stick was far more enjoyable than the curry with extra crunch!

Only 34-odd hours into our trip it has been all-new and all-exciting. One week until I start work, and 3 weeks until we will definitely have our own place! Hopefully Alice & I can keep you up-to-date and maybe entertained with our photos and anecdotes!

Cheers,
Darcy
